My understanding is the same as those below, pedal-driven power-assist perhaps with up to 250W motors looks like it will become the legal standard in Oz, which finally clears things up for the community re: bicycles and scooters. This should also apply to throttle-driven conversion kits. Another strong proponent is Urban Mover Australia who only distribute pedelecs, and pretty good ones from my experience.

It may soon be required to operate only in ‘pedal assist’ mode so that the mode of use shown in the video won’t be possible. Although an unnecessary rule, you’ll see that they work best in pedal assist mode anyway. You can order these at glow worm bicycles in sydney

That’s correct, and as you can see from the video, this bike has pedals (and is therefore legal), though they aren’t used in this video.

It’s my understanding that the new NSW road rules make ‘throttle only’ electric bicycles illegal in NSW. Aren’t they all required to be pedal/elec nowadays?
